I am a 31 year old London artist. I draw my inspiration from Mediterranean, Asian and British landscape and seascape, as well as from the beauty of historic London.
Current art projects are influenced by Japanese Sumi-e dream painting and the dream lanscape of deserted London streets in the rain.
I also always return to the evocative, escapist southerly coasts for inspiration, and am working on a series of Mediterranean seascapes, in oils, drawing on a recent excursion to the Cote D'azur.
Are characterised by vibrant colour and movement. I strive to capture moments of drama and timelessness in the everyday. Some have a photographic quality whilst others are almost abstract. Water, rain, brooding storms and sunlight all fascinate me as I try and capture the way the weather transforms places.
Howard Hodgkin and the French Impressionists are my greatest influences currently as I like to keep my subjects and styles bright and sun-drenched, and I like to revisit some of their favourite locations and paint these in my style.
Because of its ligh-hearted sunniness I also greatly admire Japanese art and the Western Decorative traditions such as Art Deco which have stemmed from it. I love some of the 30s ads for holiday resorts and like to re-capture these in some of my paintings.
Because London is best enjoyed in the rain, when its crowds are dispersed and its architecture revealed, my series of London paintings are chiefly rainy-day paintings, and I love the way the street lights reflect in the rain-cleansed pavements.
